Lease a Horse or Pony - Live the Dream
Always wanted your own horse or pony? Don't have the knowledge, money or time to take on such a huge commitment? Here's the answer! Make your Dream come True!
Waimak River Adventures has ponies and horses available for shared lease by riders who just aren't able to keep their own animal.
How does it work?
Basically we care for the daily maintenance of the animal, provide the tack, rugs shoeing or trimming and helath care and you sign up to however many days per week that you can (includes weekends) manage or choose to come and groom/ride that animal on those days and times for a weekly fee. Please note: You would not be expected to spend the whole day with the animal, a few hours at a time that suits on the days that suit. For those that wish to improve their riding skills 1 lesson every 2 weeks is required. All potential leasees will get the opportunity to have their riding skills assessed on the animal of their choice before the lease is signed. Leases are required in writing and to be paid fortnightly in advance.
Once the lease is in place the leasee is responsible for catching grooming tacking untacking and maintaining tack regularly as well as caring for the animal whilst it is in their care. No abuse or inappropriate handling will be tolerated.
What kind of ponies are available?
The ponies that are available range in height from 11hh to 14.2hh and have all been involved in our riding school and school holiday riding programs. They are mostly Welsh cross or English Riding breeds.
What kind of Horses are available?
Most of our trek horses are Standardbreds (ex trotters or pacers) and range in size from 15.1hh to 17hh. There is also one Thoroughbred mare whom we use for adult lessons. Some of the SB's have given lessons before and all have trekked out and are safe relaxed mounts. Some are more suitable for riders of intermediate and up to advanced abilities whilst many are just great confidence buliders.
